A clever little hack to display Plex content on an Apple TV with no jailbreak required:
- PlexConnect Brings Plex to Your Apple TV, No Jailbreak Required Until now, the only way to run a Plex media server to your Apple TV was to jailbreak it.
- Plex is a complete solution for local and online media. If you take the plunge and go down the PlexConnect route, this show demonstrates what you might see on your Apple TV. In addition, although not based on iOS, I give you a quick demo of what Plex looks like on a Roku3 box, just for the lolz;-).
Im somewhat good with computers but clearly not on this little adventure. I was previously able to put plex on the ATV3 before the last update. Please all i need is an EXACT step by step guide on how to do it. I LOVE plex and love the effort people put in to make it work. Im also a proud plex pass member so i wanna take full advantage of the program if possible.
Essentially, you run a program on your computer which masquerades as the Trailer app. Next, change one setting on the ATV, and you’re up and running. It took me less than 2 minutes to install and get it running. It already uses the new transcoder (which means great support for subtitles), and I suspect it’ll support myPlex soon as well.
There’s a bit of manual configuration to do with this first version of PlexConnect. You can find an official discussion board, check out the FAQ, roadmap, or grab the source code here.
